Blanche Marie (Luerman) Hilgenberg, 95, of Ellis, passed away Friday, November 20, 2020 at the Ellis Good Samaritan Society. She was born on September 4, 1925, to Charles and Mary (Klusener) Luerman on the family farm in Russell County, Kansas. She graduated from Dorrance High School in 1944. She married Albert Hilgenberg on July 16, 1944 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dubuque, Kansas.

Blanche worked as a rural school teacher early in her life, and later at Fuller Brothers Drug Store in Ellis, and as a cook at the Ellis Good Samaritan Center. Her most cherished role was that of devoted wife, mother, homemaker, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family always came first. She was a breast cancer survivor.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Ellis and Messiah Lutheran Church, Hays. During retirement, she enjoyed travelling the country with Albert.

She is survived by four daughters, Sue Staab (Tom) of Hays, Sheila Betts (Roger) of Shattuck, OK, Renee Wiesner of Lawrence and Trena Lang (Rodger) of Springfield, MO; two sisters, Vergie Heffel of Luray, KS, Gloria Waymaster of Bunker Hill, KS; ten grandchildren, Keith Staab (Diane), Kirk Staab (Jan), Craig Staab (Freda), Charla Heaton (Ashley), Shawn Betts (Lovey), Frank Wiesner (Trinh), Stephanie Parkins (Danny), Brandi Sunderman (Austin), Dylan Lang and Whitney Haas (Daren); twelve great-grandchildren, Cody and Aaron Staab, Kaden and Kyler Staab, Kiersten and Allison Heaton, Connor Betts, Francisca Wiesner, Owen Parkins, Reagan and Truman Sunderman, and Carter Haas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Albert, two sisters, Violet Bennett and Florence Cook, two brothers Clayton Luerman and Clarence Luerman and a grandson, Frederick Wiesner.

Graveside services for immediate family will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ellis. A Celebration of Life will be held in Spring of 2021. Services in care of Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E. 17th Ellis, KS 67637.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis, Messiah Lutheran Church in Hays, American Cancer Society, or to the Kansas Society for Children with Challenges, formerly Kansas Crippled Children.
