Obituary



Bessie Ellen Leiker, age 90, of Hays, Kansas passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021 in Ellis, Kansas. She was born January 30, 1931 in Diller, Nebraska to Warren and Ruby (Wells) Stewart. She married Maurice "M. C." Leiker on November 8, 1953 in Hays. He preceded her in death on Aug 31, 1985.

Bessie had worked as a secretary in their accounting business and was a longtime thrift shop volunteer in Hays. She enjoyed bowling, attended meal site daily and coffee time at Daylight Donuts.

Bessie is survived by two daughters, Faith Ann Scheck of Ellis and Stephanie Martin and husband Ken "Beans" of Ellis; and a son, John and wife Tammy of Ellis, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, LeeRoy Scheck; great grandson, Bryce Stropes; a granddaughter, Melissa Martin; a sister, Roma Hixon; a stepsister, Pat Turner; and two stepbrothers, Larry and Richard Lacy.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be 2 PM - 4 PM Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601. Private family inurnment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hays.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hays Meal Site.
