William Dean Jacobs passed away peacefully Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the Hays Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Sophia (Graf) Jacobs as well as his brother Merle Patrick Jacobs.
He is survived and missed by his sister Jane Silvia, brother Chesley (Adrienne) Jacobs, nieces Karen Silvia, Jamie Jacobs, and Lindsay Jacobs, nephews Dan Silvia and Tom Silvia, and many Volga German relatives across the state.
Bill was born in Hays, Kansas in 1949 and graduated from Victoria High School in 1967. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Fort Hays State University in 1972. He owned and operated the Stonepost Buckles company and store in Hays where he enjoyed making many friends and selling western wear. He later became a driver for Quest Diagnostics and continued to manage the family farm raising Herefords and growing winter wheat. Bill appreciated life in the country caring for the dogs, cats, and cattle, as well as attracting and viewing wildlife, including songbirds, deer, and turkey.
He liked playing softball, golfing, and traveling to Denver, Las Vegas, and Cheyenne. Bill was a sports fan and followed Kansas college and professional sports teams. He had a booth at the Kansas State Fair for many years where he sold custom belt buckles. Bill enjoyed meeting and visiting with people and made many friends across the state of Kansas.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Hays Medical Center, HaysMed Hospice, University of Kansas Medical Center, and Via Christi Village for their care and support of Bill. A very special thanks to all neighbors and friends that provided assistance, support, and friendship to Bill and the family.
Bill loved his friends and we would love for you to join us in celebrating his life as well as a lunch at the Hays VFW following.
Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Pfeifer, Kansas. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial visitation will be 9 AM until service time at the church.
