Wendy Beth Fujimori Hawkins, a member of the McCracken, Kansas community for the past decade, passed away on March 18, 2026, at HaysMed in Hays, Kansas.
Born on November 27, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois, Wendy was the beloved daughter of George and Esther Fujimori, proud Americans of Japanese heritage. Her father’s courageous service during World War II, volunteering from the Manzanar Internment Camp to fight against the Japanese, was a source of inspiration and pride throughout her life.
Wendy’s journey carried her beyond Chicago after graduating from Sullivan High School. Though she briefly explored college, her true passion led her into the working world. She moved to Los Angeles where she found her calling as a production assistant in the film industry, eventually transitioning into advertising. There, Wendy nurtured her artistic talents, especially her love for photography focused on food—aptly dubbed “The Flavor Queen,” she delighted in creating memorable dishes and was renowned for her signature udon.
A treasured friendship that began in early childhood with Shelley Goldstein, a professional entertainer, enriched Wendy’s life over the years. She was married twice and is survived by her former husband, Richard Hawkins, her brother Glenn, and a wide circle of loving extended family.
Despite facing the challenges of scoliosis, diagnosed at age 12, Wendy’s spirit remained vibrant. She embraced music and dance with joy, relishing the disco scene in her youth. Though the progression of scoliosis eventually brought her pain and limitation, her strength and warmth never waned.
Wendy’s family has chosen cremation through Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601. At this time, no formal services are planned.
All who knew and loved Wendy are invited to share their memories and celebrate her life on her tribute page at www.keithleyfuneralchapels.com.
