Viola Ross

Viola M. Ross, 88, died on Tuesday, February 3, at Hays Medical Center. She was born in Hays on Sept. 26, 1920, the oldest of five children born to Adolph and Mary (Urban) Dreiling. She married Norbert E. Ross Sept. 4, 1946 in Hays at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She worked at the Hays Daily News until her marriage. She was a homemaker and later went to work at Fort Hays State University. She retired from the university in 1985. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Church and an active member of the Altar Society and Christian Mothers as well as the Eucharistic Adorers. She graduated from Girls Catholic High in 1938. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jo and Donald Chambers, Hays; and Judith and Paul Gilbert, Overland Park; three sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Mary Ann, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; Ronald and Alice, Parkville, Mo.; and Kenneth and Karen, Fort Wayne, Ind.; six grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, three great grandchildren, eleven step great grandchildren, and four step great, great grandchildren; her sister, Dorothy Dreiling,and husband Marvin Hays, ; and four sisters-in-law, Lillian Dreiling, Hays, Tina Ross, Hays, Irene Hauser, Louisville, Colo., Mildred Ross, Wichita and two brothers-in-law,Clarence Thummel of Los Angeles, CA. and Alan Ross and wife Wilma, Hays. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981, and her brother, Anthony F. (Frank) Dreiling, and two sisters, Mary Ann Thummel, and Mildred Bollig. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hays, with burial following in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Viewing is Friday, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 - 9:30 at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays. A combined rosary service with the Altar Society & Christian Mothers and the Eucharistic Adorers will be at 4:30. A parish wake service will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday all at the funeral home.
