Vernena Bunker

Vernena Carolyn (Deutscher) Bunker, age 87, of Hays formerly of Ellis passed away Saturday, February 27th at the Hays Good Samaritan Center. She was born on December 14, 1922 on a farm near Ellis, Kansas to Ludwig and Lydia (Huck) Deutscher. She was a 1940 graduate of Ellis High School and attended Fort Hays State University. She married William H. Bunker on April 19, 1944 in Ellis. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1973. She later married Robert F. Bunker in Hays.Vernena was a homemaker and farmwife, excellent cook and an active and devoted member of Christ Lutheran Church of Ellis.She is survived by a sister-in-law, Rosemary (Bunker) Wickham and husband Robert E. of Hays; five nieces, Carrie Sutton and husband Jeff of Hutchinson, Connie Linenberger and husband Gerold of Hays, Claudia Schaus and husband Richard of Ellis, Caren Bates of Sulfer, Oklahoma and Darcel Marxen Richmond of Lewisville, North Carolina; two nephews, Robert J. Wickham and wife Linda and Michael T. Wickham and wife Gail all of Hays as well as many other nephews and nieces.She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Oswald Deutscher and a sister, Charmane Marxen. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis.Visitation will be on Monday 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E. 17th, Ellis. Tuesday visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. - service time at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Christ Lutheran Church
