Thelma Snell

Thelma Lucille Snell, 101, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at Ellis Good Samaritan Center. She was born Feb. 4, 1908, in rural Trego County to Earl and Leona (Schlotterback) Furbeck. She married Gene Snell in 1951. He preceded her in death. She was a cook for various restaurants in the Ellis area for many years. She was dedicated to her family and also enjoyed reading, dominos and playing pinochle. Survivors include two daughters, Darlene McFarren and husband, Dean, McCracken, and Leona Hrabe, Ellis; a daughter-in-law, Velma Irene Edwards, Ellis; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, Ronald Edwards, Dale Edwards and Dwayne Snell; an infant daughter, Peggy Jean Edwards; her parents, two sisters; a brother; and two grandsons. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Keithley Funeral Chapel, Ellis; burial in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Ellis Good Samaritan Center in care of the funeral home.
