Afterwards, she served as both an office and committee secretary for the Kansas State Legislature for many years, developing deep friendships with many of her colleagues.
When she was a young mother, Sue volunteered as a Boy Scout den mother. Later, she served as an officer in both the National Association of Railway Business Women and the Santa Fe & BNSF Retirees Club. She also organized several all-women investment clubs.
She and Karl were longtime parishioners at St. Aloysius Church in Meriden. Sue loved a good puzzle, cheering on the KU Jayhawks, sharing the accomplishments and adventures of her three sons, and the joy she received from each of her six grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons: Rick of San Diego, Doug and wife Alyson of Lawrence, and Jeff and wife Cindy of Baldwin City. She is a grandmother to Jacob, Sophia (Horner), Meredith, and Aidan, children of Doug and Alyson; Haley (Cunningham) and Megan (Jacobus), children of Jeff and Cindy; and two great-grandsons, Joey Cunningham and Judah Jacobus.
