Severin Leiker

Severin Leiker, 89, Hays, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at St. John's Rest Home, Hays. He was born June 6, 1919, in Munjor to Sebastian and Mary (Pfannenstiel) Leiker. He was a 1937 graduate of St. Joseph's Military Academy.He married Marie Riedel on Feb. 11, 1947, in Walker. She preceded him in death Oct. 27, 2000. He was a farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include two sons, Irvin Leiker and wife, Terry, and Ernie Leiker and wife, Sandy, all of Hays; three daughters, Marietta Schupman and husband, Arlyn, Hays, Edna Rupp and husband, Harland, Hoisington, and Melinda Thomas and husband, Dale, Alamo, Texas; a sister, Lidwina Ruder, Hays; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ted and Alvin; three sisters, Odilia Leiker, Marcella Giebler and Rosemary Urban; and four infant brothers and sisters.
