Serena Tenbrink, age 83, of Spearville, Kansas passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at the home of her daughter in Weatherford Texas. She was born on August 7, 1942 in Hays KS to Clarence and Florentine (Unrein) Gross. On November 24, 1962, she married Lyle Tenbrink and they were married 63 years until Lyle’s passing in November 2025. They were blessed with three children, Kim (Lonny) McGuffey, Carol (Dennis) Kranz, and Gary (Misty) Tenbrink.

Serena started working as a telephone operator before spending her career in banking at Ford County State Bank for 40 years. She was a huge KU Jayhawks basketball fan and she could talk basketball with the best of them. Serena always made sure that if you were visiting, you were fed as that was normally the first thing she would ask you when you stepped through the door.

Serena and Lyle’s children and grandchildren will always cherish the memories of them both, but they sure will miss the birthday phone call where they both would sing Happy Birthday to you, no matter how old you might be.

Serena is survived by her three children and spouses, seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Stan (Carol) Gross and sister Sandy (Jack) Barber.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two sisters Shirley Tackett and Sheila Jordan.
