Roy K. Atkisson

Roy Kenneth Atkisson, age 89, of Wichita where he resided with his son for his final years and former Hays resident of 45 years passed away on March 11, 2010 in Wichita. He was born on May 7, 1920 in Grenada, CO. to Sidney Earl and Pansy Marie Atkisson. He married Leona B. Reuber on September 19, 1944 in Leon, Kansas. She preceded him in death on November 10, 2006. He served in the United States Navy in WWII, and retired as an oil field worker. Roy was an avid fisherman, longstanding member of the Hays, KS Masonic Lodge, Isis Shrine and a lifetime VFW member.He is survived by a son; Steven Atkisson of Wichita, KS. two sisters; Julia Somers of Mandeville, LA. and Vera Kaser of Omaha, Nebraska. six grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A son, Kenneth Atkisson and a sister Loretta Holt preceded him in death. Services will be held Monday March 15, 2010 at 10:30 am at Brock's North Hill Chapel 2509 Vine in Hays. Burial will be in Mt. Allen Cemetery with Military services by the Hays VFW. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3-8 pm at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care of KS Wichita, Kansas.
