Richard "Dick" Leiker, 83, of Nashville, TN, passed away peacefully at his home on June 25, 2025, with his beloved wife of 23 years, Lydia, by his side. Born June 21, 1942, in Hays, Kansas, to Richard and Mary (Braun) Leiker. Dick graduated from St. Joseph's Military Academy in 1960 and attended Fort Hays State University.
Dick took pride in taking care of his family, his lawn and flowers, his car and his home; all the while leaving an impression for all to remember him by. Known for his warmth and charm, Dick never met a stranger. He built a career in sales, both in retail and corporate supplies at GM Saturn Corp. in Spring Hill, TN. A lifelong car enthusiast, he took pride in maintaining and detailing his vehicles. But it was golf that truly captured his heart. He followed his daughter’s passion for the love of the game when she started to play in high school. In Dick’s pastime, you would find him on the golf course. He was also known for his golf memorabilia and wardrobe. Amid many interests, he was a fan of KU basketball and Kansas City Chiefs football. Kansas was always at the center of his heart.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia (Ralph) Leiker; his children, Gina MacConnell (Matt), Dallas, TX and Ryan Leiker (Tamra), Hays, KS; stepchildren Catrina Massey (Paul), Colorado Springs, CO, Monica (Michael) Cohen, and Sonja Price, both of Seattle, WA; and his siblings, Doris (Leiker) Ebersole, Leawood, KS and Robert Leiker (Jill), Olathe, KS. He was a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. Dick also leaves behind nephews, loving In-laws, and many dear friends and caregivers. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Robert Ebersole and Steve Ralph. A funeral mass will be held August 2, 2025 at 10am at St. Nicholas of Myra Church in Hays, KS. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Hays following mass.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donating to Alzheimer’s Tennessee, Inc., where Dick spent time, weekly, surrounded by dedicated professionals that thrive to care for those living with Alzheimer’s and support their families. A donation can be made via their website www.alztennessee.org or in care of Keithley Funeral Homes~Brock’s Chapel, Hays, Kansas.
