Obituary



Michael A. Cowell age 77, of Hays, Kansas died Monday, January 17, 2022 at the Norton DSNWK Home.

He was born on February 5, 1944, in Topeka, Kansas to Marion Emil and Maxine Claudia (Maines) Cowell.

Michael was raised in Topeka and Parsons then came to the Hays DSNWK family in 1973 at the age of 29. Michael enjoyed working with is hands, coloring, puzzles, sewing, and yarn work. He was very proud of his Native American Indian heritage, keeping in touch with his guardian, and being with his DSNWK family and staff.

Survivors include his two brothers, Timothy Henderson, OK; Rex Yarbrough, TX; his one sister, Linda Smith, TX; his guardian, Kim Horton, Grantville, KS; his DSNWK family and Staff.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ramona Lee Horton.

A celebration of life service will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Clines-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601, with Rev. Troy Miller officiating.

A gathering of friends and family will be from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, at the mortuary. Lunch will follow at the Hays V.F. W.

A private family inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka next to his grandmother.

Memorials at suggested to Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas, Inc. in care of the mortuary.
