Michael A. Sander

Michael A. Sander, age 62, of Hays, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at the Downs Care and Rehabilitation Center in Downs, Kansas. He was born on December 22, 1960, in Hays, Kansas, to proud parents Mike Ulrich and Georgina (Wasinger) Sander. Michael's journey through life was marked by dedication, passion, and a warm-hearted spirit that touched the lives of many.

A 1980 graduate of Hays High School, Michael embarked on a fulfilling career as a butcher, dedicating over 30 years of his life to Tom Thumb Grocery in Dallas, Texas. His commitment to his work was evident in the quality he delivered to countless customers throughout his career.

Beyond his profession, Michael was an enthusiastic sports fan, with a deep-seated love for the Dallas Cowboys and their cheerleaders. He was also a devoted follower of NASCAR, particularly cheering for the legendary Dale Earnhardt Sr. His appreciation for sports extended to collecting memorabilia, a cherished hobby that allowed him to preserve the moments and memories that meant the most to him.

Michael's outgoing personality and love for conversation made him a delightful presence to be around. He relished in the opportunity to connect with others, whether through discussing his beloved sports or sharing stories and laughter. His warm and welcoming demeanor left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Michael is survived by his two brothers, Marvin Sander and Larry (Rhonda) Sander of Hays; two sisters, Darlene (Bill) Johnson of Bertha, Colorado, and Debra Kuhn of Hays; as well as a brother-in-law, Francis Fisher of Hays and his fur buddy, Marley

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Linda Fisher and Norma (Bill) Thompson, brother Melvin Francis Sander, brother-in-law Rick Kuhn; and a sister-in-law, Donna Sander

A funeral service to honor Michael's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays. Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hays.

Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory-Brock's Chapel, located at 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be designated at a later date and made payable to Larry Sander.
