Meridith Wasinger, age 83, a resident of Hays, Kansas went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 22, 2010. Meridith was born May 6, 1927 in Ellis, Kansas to Dr. Joseph and Matilda (Niernberger) Wasinger. He married Agnes "Nitzie" Rupp on February 9, 1948 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, Kansas.After graduating from Saint Joseph Military School Meridith served our country during World War II in the United States Navy aboard the USS Repose. He then delivered mail in rural Ellis and Trego Counties for over 30 years for the US Postal Service. Meridith enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, all of whom were always welcome to his cabin at Cedar Bluff Lake. Meridith was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ellis 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. He is survived by his wife, Agnes "Nitzie" Wasinger of Hays, daughter and son-in-law Mary Jo and Don Heath of Salina, two sons, Tom Wasinger of Ellis and Mike Wasinger of Hays, two grandchildren, Dr. Kevin Heath and wife Dr. Meagan Heath of Palo Alto, CA. and Elizabeth Heath of Lawrence, KS. , a great grandchild, Alexandra Heath of Palo Alto, CA., three sisters, Mrs. Patricia McKinley of Topeka, Cheryl Haas and husband Ken of Hays, and Sister Mary Terence O.P. of Great Bend, KS., three brothers, Harry and wife Dee Wasinger of Garden Grove, CA., Dr. Jack and wife Joyce Wasinger of Denver, CO. and Bill and wife Jeanne Wasinger of Scottsdale, AZ. as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. We thank God for being a part of Meridith's journey on earth to his everlasting life in Heaven.Meridith was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Joann Kjornes and brothers, Dr. Les Wasinger and Terry Wasinger.A celebration of Meridith's life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 27th at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. Inurnment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors by the Hays VFW. There will be no viewing, Cremation has taken place. Arrangements in care of Brock's North Hill Chapel of Hays.Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Church, TMP-Marian or the Dominican Sisters of Great Bend and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
