Mavis Kingsley

Mavis L. (Strecker) Kingsley - of Hays, Kansas passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at her home. She was born at her parent's home at 425 East 14th, Street, Russell, Kansas.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward August Strecker and Alverda (Karst) Strecker-Mortimer; her husband, Dr. Keith Kingsley and her sister, Rae Ellen (Strecker) Smith-Pfeifer.


Mavis' father was killed in an oilfield accident in 1950, so she and her sister, Rae Ellen had to work to help support the family. Mavis, at ten years old was the popcorn girl at the Mecca Theater, later an usher at the Dream Theater. She worked at the swimming pool every summer during high school. All while growing up in Russell.


Mavis graduated from Russell High School in 1958. Thereafter she married Keith Kingsley. They were married for 50 years. From that union came two sons, Scott and Chris and one daughter, Sandy.


Mavis has worked all her life. While Keith was a County Agent in Lexington, Nebraska she worked for H.O. Smith Abstract Co.

During the nine years Keith was earning his college degrees including a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, she had many jobs. She was secretary at KSU Photo Services, babysitter, sold Avon, secretary at County Treasurer, Riley County Courthouse, all while raising their children. She was a realtor for many years in Hays. Before retirement she was interior decorator which was her labor of passion. Her favorite thing was fishing, loved cooking and baking, reading and doing pencil drawings


Mavis is survived by her children, Dr. Scott Kingsley and wife, Lynda, of McKinney, TX; Chris Kingsley and wife, Michele, of Hays, KS; Sandy Kingsley of Laramie, WY; her grandchildren, Ashley Kingsley; Aaron Kingsley; Brandon Kingsley (Kaylee); Alyssa Cunningham (Chris); Tanner Perkins; Cody Perkins; Eathan Perkins; Alex Perkins, Crystal Cain; her great grandchildren, Cooper Betts; Callie Betts, Ava Cunningham, Braedon Cunningham, Brenton Kingsley, Wenston Kingsley and Brynlee Kingsley.


Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 5, 2023, at The First Presbyterian Church, 2900 Hall Street, Hays, Kansas with Rev. Christine Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays, Kanas.


Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays and from 10:00 to 11:00 A. M. Friday, at the First Presbyterian Church.


In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials payable to: The Wounded Warrior Project in care of Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.
