Mark E. Pfannenstiel

Mark E. Pfannenstiel – age 63 of Hays, Kansas passed away Friday, November 24, 2023, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.  He was born on June 2, 1960, to Melvin and Cora Lee (Schmidt) Pfannenstiel.

Mark graduated from TMP in 1978. While at TMP he was in the concert and marching bands, and he was in the TMP Folk Chorus, which travelled all around the country.  He entered the BA Music program at Fort Hays State University that Fall and graduated in 1983.  He then attended Rockhurst University for a year, before moving to Kansas City, MO, where he would live until 2018 when he moved back to Hays, KS.

He worked at The Kansas City Club from 1985 until 2003 and retained close friendships with many of the people he worked with right to the end.  He was forced to retire after getting West Nile Virus, which caused many serious health problems throughout his remaining years.

He loved music of all genres, especially classical, and he frequently sang to his sister, Cindy, during their many phone conversations.  You never knew when he would suddenly break into song!  He was an avid Star Trek fan and loved sci-fi movies and TV shows of all kinds.  Mark also had a wicked sense of humor, which all of the kids got from their dad!  He loved bringing joy to people’s lives through laughter.  He was a loyal friend and a kind and caring listener.

Mark had a strong faith and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hays.

Mark is survived by his sister, Cindy Pfannenstiel, Brierley Hill, England.
