Marian Geist

Marian Anna (Trower) Geist, age 99, of Hays, Kansas passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024 at HaysMed.

She was born on August 22, 1924 in Mankato, Kansas to William and Leora (Newman) Trower. Marian moved with her parents and little sister to Hoxie, Kansas in March 1931. There she met William M. Geist and married him on June 12, 1948. To this union seven children were born.

In 1968 she began her career as a nurse’s aide at St. Anthony Hospital in Hays, Kansas. Eventually retiring as the Central Supply Supervisor.

Between raising her children and her career she was an avid reader; doing crossword puzzled daily; crocheting; embroidery and needlepoint until she started to lose her eyesight. She was a Cub Scout leader, 4-H leader and in her later years a Foster Grandparent. She got great joy seeing her “grandkids” out in public.

Marian is survived by her daughters:  Mary Lou Taylor (OK), Margaret (Mike) Hebert (WI), Monica Geist (KS), Marita Geist (KS) and daughter-in-law Theresa Geist (KS). One son: Don Geist (TX), 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William; two sons, James Geist and Anthony (Tony) Geist, two grandsons, Darrin Ayers and Derek Ayers, granddaughter, Katina (Geist) Wakefield, sister, Hankie Beckman and her parents, William Trower and Leora Bell.

Marian’s final act was donating her body to the KC Medical Center Willed Body Program.

At Marian’s request there will be no services.

Memorials in her name should be given to the donor’s favorite charity.
