Leroy Joseph Meis age 83, of Victoria, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Hays Medical Center Hays, Kansas. He was born March 29, 1943, at Hays, Kansas, to Joseph P. and Helen (Vonfeldt) Meis.
Leroy was a farmer and worked at the Ellis County Road and Bridge Department for 30 years, and retired in 2005. He also worked in the oil fields for a few years. He grew up on the farm at Catharine, and attended Lost Canyon School. He enjoyed working in the shop with his nephews, and loved going to Polka dances.
Leroy was a veteran US Navy, and served in Vietnam, a member of the Victoria V.F.W. Post #1751, and a member of Saint Catherine’s Catholic Church.
Leroy is survived by his brother, Kenneth Meis and wife, Jeanie, Catharine, KS; his sister, Edie Braun and husband, Wayne, Hays, KS; his nephews and nieces, Tom Meis (Jennifer); Jim Meis (Terri); Lisa Miller (TJ); Jason Meis (Jennifer); Scott Braun; Randal Braun; Mary Meis (Tony); Judy Meis (John); several great nephews and great nieces,
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen; and his brother, Emery Meis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Saint Catherine Catholic Church in Catharine, Kansas, with Celebrant, Father Earl Befort O.F.M. Cap.
Burial in Saint Catherine’s Cemetery with Military Honors by the Victoria V.F.W. Post # 1751.
A Vigil Service and a V.F.W. Rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Friday, at Clines-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.
A visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, at Clines-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Saturday, at Saint Catherine’s Church.
The family suggests memorials made payable to: Hays Medical Center Foundation or Saint Catherine Cemetery in care of Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.
