LeeRoy Berthold Schuckman, age 83, of Hays, Kansas died Saturday, April 18, 2020, in Hays. He was born June 13, 1936 in LaCrosse, Kansas to Ludwig and Esther Schaffer Schuckman.
He earned his bachelors and masters degrees from Fort Hays State University and his specialist degree from Kansas University. He was an educator for 39 years. He taught and was Principal in McCracken, KS, Principal of LaCrosse High School and Superintendent/Principal at Almena (Northern Valley). He spent summers cutting wheat on his parents farm. Career highlights also include driving a lawn mower across the United States when he was 17 years old and earning his real-estate license later in life. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and a life member of the VFW and American Legion. LeeRoy enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, dancing and going to the lake.
Survivors include long-time friend Marge Rome of Victoria, KS, one son, Robin Schuckman and spouse, Dotty of Alma, KS, two daughters, Lisa Schuckman-Baus and Penny Schuckman both of Wichita, KS one brother, Eddy Schuckman, LaCrosse, KS, four grandchildren Annie Frank (Justin), Brandon Ermey (Amanda), Molly Schuckman, Dakota Schuckman (Colleen) and seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Norma Jean Kirby.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at the St. Michaels Cemetery, LaCrosse, KS. We invite any who wish to visit the grave to celebrate LeeRoys life or you may leave comments via Facebook. Once the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted a public celebration of LeeRoys life will be announced.
