Karla Weimer

Karla K. Weimer, age 62, of Ellis, Kansas passed away Saturday, August 22, 2026. She was born on September 21, 1963 in Hays, Kansas to Sheryl Wiesner and David Fox. She spent much of her childhood on her grandparents’ farm, where she enjoyed the freedom of farm life, riding with Gramps on the lawnmower, and sliding off the barn roof with her siblings.

In 1982, Karla married her husband, Martin. They were married for 44 years and shared a strong, unshakable partnership that remained until the very end. Together, they raised two daughters, Anna and Kayci. Karla was devoted to her family, and becoming a “Nonna” to her granddaughter, Aliya, was one of the greatest joys of her life.

Karla spent 44 years working for Walmart, beginning with the opening of the original Hays store. She spent her entire tenure based out of the Hays store, where she found both a career and lifelong friendships. She valued the people she worked with and the relationships she developed over those many years.

Karla especially enjoyed time with her family. She coached Anna and Kayci in softball as they were growing up, giving her another way to be involved in the activities they enjoyed. Family time also meant plenty of board games, especially Clue, where she took great pride in beating everyone at the table. She treasured her time with Aliya and especially enjoyed watching her play volleyball. Whether she was in the stands or simply spending time together, those moments with her granddaughter meant a great deal to her.

Karla loved the holidays. Decorating her home for Christmas brought her so much joy, and she had a natural eye for making things look just right. She also collected antiques, and she and Martin enjoyed trips to Eureka Springs to wander through the antique shops. She earned the nickname ‘knick knack Nonna’ for the trinkets she would find and bring home. Karla also enjoyed concerts. Her last concert was her favorite artist, Chris Stapleton, where she was front row, elbows on the stage.

Karla was a fierce woman who stood firmly by what she believed was right and wrong. She was a protector of the people she loved and was never afraid to speak up for them. She loved deeply and always stood her ground. Anyone who was lucky enough to know and be loved by Karla is better for it.

Karla’s family finds comfort in knowing that she was not afraid of death. She knew she would be welcomed into the arms of her Creator, and that gave her peace.

Karla was preceded in death by her grandparents; her mother, Sheri, and stepfather, Greg; her brother, Kris; and her father, David.

She is survived by her husband, Martin; her daughters, Anna and Kayci; her granddaughter, Aliya; her siblings, Kevin (Connie) Fox, Karen Fox, Ryan (Johana) Wiesner, David (Jennifer) Fox Jr., and Erica Schulz; and her stepmother, Alice Fox. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, extended family members, friends, and coworkers who will miss her greatly.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. Memorial visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday at the church until service time.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
