Joseph William Karlin, age 52 of Hays, died Tuesday, June 23rd at Hays Medical Center. He was born on March 15, 1957 in Hays to Joseph C. and Thelma (Staab) Karlin. He graduated from Hays High School in 1975.

He retired from the Marines after twenty years of service. Joe had earned a Bachelors degree from Fort Hays State University and was currently working on his Masters.

He is survived by his parents of Hays, two sons, Joseph Wesley Karlin of Flagstaff, Az. and Nicholas Bryce Karlin of Gilbert, Az., three brothers, Tom Karlin and wife Margaret of Colby, Larry Karlin and wife Sheila of Garden City and Paul Karlin and wife Darla of Hays, three sisters, Jeaninne Kaberlein and husband Bill of Hays, Coleen Shields of Hill City and Susan Taylor and husband Rob of Hays, and a step-grandson, Preston.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Kenneth VonLintel.
