John Wayne Gottschalk, age 72, of Schoenchen, passed away on Tuesday, January 4th at Hays Medical Center. He was born August 1, 1938 in Brighton, CO. to John H. and Georgine (Schulte) Gottschalk. He married Esther Werth on October 26, 1957 in Antonino, KS.John was the owner of Johnnie's Service and Repair in Schoenchen. He started the business in 1970 and semi-retired in 2007. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Schoenchen and a 3rd Degree member of the Schoenchen Knights of Columbus 4166.John is survived by his wife, Esther Gottschalk of Schoenchen, a son, Wayne Gottschalk and wife Jackie of Schoenchen; a daughter, Mary Ellen Babcock and husband Gerald of Onaga, KS; three brothers, Earl Gottschalk of Schoenchen, Terrance Gottschalk and wife Sandra of Logan, KS. and Merlin Gottschalk also of Logan; five sisters, Kathleen Buhrle of Hays, Beatina Nowak and husband Ted of Hays, Ilene Ritz and husband Norman of Parson, KS., Clarita Baker and husband Lewis Jr. of Strong City, KS. and Phyllis Murphy and husband Mike of Zurich, KS; three grandchildren, Darrell Wayne Sander of Hays, Kelly Sander of Marquette, NE. and Jewel Gottschalk of Schoenchen. He is also survived by two great grandchildren, Ezra and Cooper Sander. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Allen and Ronald Gottschalk, infant sister, Patricia Gottschalk and two grandsons, Eric and Nathan Gottschalk.Services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, January 8th at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Schoenchen with burial following the service at St. Anthony Cemetery.Visitation will be from 3 to 8 pm Friday and from 8:30 to 9:30 am on Saturday all at Brock's North Hill Chapel ~ 2509 Vine ~ Hays, KS. 67601.A Schoenchen Knights of Columbus 4166 rosary service will be at 6:30 P.M. on Friday followed by a parish wake service at 7:00 P.M. all at the funeral home.Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony Cemetery Fund or St. Anthony Church.
