Jeanette Lea (Wendel) Harris age 63, of Phillipsburg KS, peacefully departed this life on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Hays Medical Center.

A native of Almena Kansas, Jeanette was born September 13, 1962, to Marvin and Sherrill (Jenkins) Wendel, and raised on their family farm along with her older sister Patti.

Attending Northern Valley schools, Jeanette had many friends and was in all the activities offered, as well as being honored as Valedictorian of her class. She was active in the Almena Congregational Church including their choir and youth group.

Graduating high school in 1980, Jeanette attended and graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1984, finishing with an internship in Wichita for cytology. During college she joined Phi Sigma Sigma sorority. Her sisters there became lifelong friends.

Jeanette moved to Springfield Missouri area, working in a hospital lab till 1993. In 1992, she became the proud Mother of a son, David. In 1993, another son, Skyler joined the family. Around 2000, Jeanette's family moved back to Almena to the homestead and later to town.

In 2006, Jeanette met Steve Boos, sharing love and partnership through her final days, residing in Phillipsburg.

Jeanette most recently worked for the Almena Irrigation District as secretary/bookkeeper, and substitute teaching at area schools.

As well as reading, trivia, karaoke, Jeanette loved baking and sharing her goods with many people.

Jeanette is survived by her devoted partner, Steve Boos, Phillipsburg; sons David (Danielle), Colorado Springs; Skyler Harris, Hays KS; Grandsons Teagan and Grayson Harris, Overland Park KS; Mother Sherrill Wendel, Hays KS; one sister Patti (Ray) Makings, Hays KS; and her aunts, cousins, nephews and many friends.

Welcoming Jeanette to heaven is her Dad, Marvin Wendel and her grandparents, Esther Wendel, and Myrtle and Harold Posson.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
