Jay K. Scott, aged 84, of Hays, Kansas, passed away on February 14, 2024, in Hays.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory-Brock's Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601.
A celebration gathering will follow services at Smoky Hill Country Club from 2:30 PM - 4:30 PMJay was born on January 4, 1940, in Topeka, Kansas, the beloved son of Irwin Maxwell and Kate Elizabeth (Rupin) Scott.
Jay's journey through life was marked by a deep commitment to learning and exploration. He graduated from Topeka High School and went on to pursue his passion for understanding history and political science, earning a bachelor's degree from Washburn University.
On September 14, 1979, Jay exchanged vows with Marsha L. Boxberger, in Topeka, embarking on a shared adventure that spanned decades. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Professionally, Jay made significant contributions to the business world. He was co-owner of CC&S Oil Operations, Inc. He was also active in various hospitality investments and owner of JKS OIL LLC. His dedication and entrepreneurial spirit left a lasting impact on those around him.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Jay found joy in the great outdoors. Whether he was hunting, fishing, or capturing the beauty of nature through his lens, Jay's adventurous spirit knew no bounds. He was a familiar face at the Smoky Hill Country Club, where he enjoyed many rounds of golf.
Jay's love for outdoor activities extended to his involvement as a member of the Hays City Sportsman's Club and wholeheartedly supported the FHSU Shotgun Sports team, exemplifying his passion for community and camaraderie.
Jay will be deeply missed by his wife, Marsha of the home; his daughters, Gretchen (Joel) Grade of Deerfield, Illinois, and Stacy (Dave) Byington of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His grandchildren, Alexa and Avery Grade of Deerfield, and Savannah Waldschmidt of Hays, brought him immeasurable joy and pride. In addition to his family, Jay is survived by a special family friend, Jayme Clark of Hays.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Matt Stricker.
While we are saddened by Jay's passing, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the FHSU Shotgun Sports Team in Jay's honor.
A celebration gathering of Jay's life will be held at a later date and will be announced by Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory-Brock’s Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601.
