Helen Zerfas

Helen Ruth Zerfas, age 93, of DeSoto, TX, passed away December 2, 2010 at Methodist Medical Center in Dallas. She was born January 3, 1917 in Sylvan Grove, Kansas to William Emory and Elizabeth (Wolbach) Bowen. She married Oscar J. Zerfas on May 22, 1937. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1990. Helen and Oscar lived in Ellis until 1948 when they moved to Goodland. She was the secretary for the Co-OP Oil Company in Goodland. In 1987 they moved to Hays, KS, until 1995 when she came to the Dallas area. She is survived by daughter and son in law; Ruth Ann and Max A. Jewell, II of DeSoto, TX, granddaughters; Kristi Kae and husband, John Lyon of Parker, TX, and Kerrie Paige and husband, John Adair of Corinth, TX and grandson Trey and his wife, Janina Jewell of Weatherford, TX. great grandchildren; Miles Spencer Lyon and John Austin Adair; a sister, Flora Marie Zerfas of Ellis. Memorial Services and reception at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at the Ellis United Methodist Church with Rev. Deb Harvey officiating. Private graveside services will be held prior to the memorial service at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ellis.Arrangements in care of Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis, KS 67637. Memorials are encouraged to the Caring Fund of Grace Presbyterian Village, 550 Ann Arbor, Dallas, TX 75216 (214.376.1701). An additional Celebration of her life will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church on a later date.
