Helen Schoenthaler

Helen E. Schoenthaler, age 97, of Ellis, passed away Saturday, January 29th at the Ellis Good Samaritan Center. She was born on August 11, 1913 in rural Ellis County, Kansas to John and Clara (Huber) Deutscher. She married Gerhardt Schoenthaler on November 28, 1935 at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis. He preceded her in death in 1994.She was a homemaker and a member of Christ Lutheran Church. She was also a past member of the Ellis Good Samaritan Auxiliary, E.H.U. and the Christ Lutheran Church Ladies Aide Group.Helen is survived by a son, Denny Schoenthaler and wife Ginger of Ellis; a daughter, Clarinda Gillespie and husband Gene of Ft. Collins, CO; a brother, Gilbert Deutscher of Ellis; seven grandchildren, Mark Schoenthaler, Jennifer Mellier, Jill Schoenthaler, Troy Schoenthaler, Bonnie Hahn, Becky French and Mindy Burton. 17 great grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren also survive her.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gerhardt, a son, Allen; four brothers, Carl, Norbert, Artie and Clarence and a sister, Melanie Bunker.Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.Visitation will be Monday 4:30 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E. 17th in Ellis. Tuesday visitation will be 9:30 A.M. until service time at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home.Contributions are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church or to the Ellis Good Samaritan Center.
