Hazel P. Haas, age 88 of Ellis, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the Hays Medical Center. She was born on November 20, 1920 in rural Trego County, Kansas to Charles L. and Delia (Wynn) Turner. She married Celestine Haas on April 24, 1944 in Antonino, Kansas. He preceded her in death on July 17, 1977. She was a homemaker and farmer. Her memberships included St. Mary's Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Senior Companion, Hadley Auxiliary, Ellis Nutrition Center serving as secretary and she attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson .Prior to her marriage, she was employed as an executive assistant at The Boeing Company, Wichita. She is survived by three sons, Jim and Shyrell Haas of Hays, Larry and Debbie Haas of Topeka and Gary and Millie Haas of Ellis, two daughters, Marilyn and Bob Bieker of Deland, Fl. and Carol and Bill Torpey of Wichita, a brother, Leo Turner of Dodge City, a sister, Nina Weisgerber of Albuquerque, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Taryn Haas, two brothers, George Turner and Wayne Turner and a sister, Dorothy Seirer. Funeral services will be at 9:30 A.M. Saturday, June 6th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday 8:00 A.M. - 9:00 A.M. all at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis. A Daughters of Isabella rosary service will be at 6:30 P.M. Friday followed by a parish vigil service all at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mary's School.
