Gilbert Peter Hecker

Gilbert Peter Hecker – age 88 of Hays, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Salina Regional Health Center.

He was born December 5, 1935, in Park Kansas to Martin M. and Frances (Ziegler) Hecker.  Gilbert married Caron A. (Stevenson) on January 17, 1959, in Oakley, Kansas.  She preceded him in death on December 8, 2017.

He was a manager of Hardman Lumber Yard in Russell, Kansas for 16 years until he and his wife moved to Hays, Kansas in 1986. 

Gilbert attended a country school for two years then went to school in Oakley, Kansas and was a 1954 graduate of Oakley High School.  He also attended Fort Hays State University after his military service.  He was a veteran of the US Army and spent most of his two years in France.  Gilbert moved to Homestead of Russell in 2023, he was a member of Saint Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Gilbert is survived by his sons, Robert Hecker, Watkins, CO; Douglas Hecker, Russell, KS; his daughter, Jacqulen “Jackie” Postier and husband, Lowel, Inman, KS; his brother, Alvin Hecker, Tampa, FL; his sister-in-law, Irene Rose, Oakley, KS; his grandchildren, Jesse Postier; Amanda Postier; Jordan Hecker (Courtney); Taylor Vasquez (Leo Jr.); Jonathon Hecker; and his great grandchild, Benjamin Hecker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Frances; his wife, Caron; his brothers, Virgil Hecker; and Jimmy Hecker; his sisters, Valerie Devers; and Darlene Kitendaugh.

Cremation has taken place, and the family will have a private inurnment at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Hays, Kansas at a later date.

Services are entrusted to Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.
