Gerald H. Legleiter, age 78, of Hays, passed away Wednesday, March 10th at St. John's Health Care Center in Hays. He was born on April 21, 1931 in Liebenthal to Anton and Genevieve (Schaffer) Legleiter. He married Elizabeth Dreher on September 1, 1952 in Schoenchen.Gerald owned and operated Home Lumber Company in Hays from 1963 until his retirement. After which he pursued another one of his passions, which was farming and raising cattle. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Hays VFW.He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Hays; four sons, Neil Legleiter and wife Patty of Hays, Gerald Legleiter Jr. and Kathy McGinnis of Hays, Mark Legleiter and wife Kelly of Topeka and Patrick Legleiter and wife Tammy of Hays; a daughter, Diantha Doyle and husband Stuart of Kearney, MO; five brothers, Roy of Great Bend, Walter of Hays, Dennis of Gorham, Harold and Miles both of Hays; four sisters, Dorothy McCollum, Virginia Kinderknecht, Germaine Degenhardt and Patricia Rohr all of Hays; five grandchildren, Brett Doyle, Melissa Jensen, Nathan Legleiter, Conner Legleiter and Dylan Legleiter and three great grandchildren, Brandon Doyle, Breanna Doyle and Cuylar Jensen.He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Wilfred "Fritz", Donald, Tony and Melvin Legleiter. Funeral services will be at 11:30 A.M. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday 4:30 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. and on Saturday 10:30 A.M. until service time all at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. A parish Vigil Service will be at 6:15 P.M. on Friday at the church.
