Fred T. Jacobs

Fred T. Jacobs, age 81 of Hays, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 at the St. Francis Via Christi Medical Center in Wichita. He was born Feb. 5, 1927 in Hays to Joseph G. and Josephine (Bissing) Jacobs. He married Charlotte Esther Weigel on November 12, 1945 in Hays. He had been in the retail liquor business for thirty years operating Jacobs Retail Liquor in Hays. In 1979 he started B & F Oil Company and was still active in the company. Fred was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and a 3 rd degree Knights of Columbus member with the St Joseph Council # 1325. Fred is survived by his wife, Charlotte of Hays; a son, Bob Jacobs of Hays; two daughters, Dee Hand and husband Bill of Hays and Debbie Riedel and husband Gerald of WaKeeney; two sisters, Shirley Brungardt and husband Hubert of Hays and Penny Carroll of Cheyenne Wells, CO.; one brother, Don Jacobs of Virginia; five grandchildren, Kory and Matt Jacobs, Dustin Hand, Taylor and Colton Riedel and a step granddaughter, Kelsey Hammett. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosetta Gerstner and Alice Sexton; three brothers, Virgil Jacobs, Clifford Jacobs and Cecil Jacobs and his parents. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays. Burial will be in the St. Joseph's Cemetery.Visitation will be on Friday 5:00 - 8:00 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. A parish wake service will be at 6:00 followed by a combined Knights of Columbus St. Joseph Council #1325 and Daughters of Isabella rosary service all at the church. On Saturday visitation will be 11:45 - 12:30 at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays. Memorial contributions are suggested to the IHMC Building Fund or for Masses.
