Francis "Hammie" Rupp

Francis A. "Hammie" Rupp, Hays, died Monday, May 10th at the Hays Good Samaritan Center. He was born June 1, 1930 in Hays to Edward and Rose (Groff) Rupp. He attended school at St. Joseph's Parochial School and Hays High School and he served in the National Guard. He married Norma Jean "Jeannie" Giebler on September 8, 1953 at Severin Catholic Church, Severin, Kansas.Shortly after marriage Hammie suffered the loss of his left hand while working in the oil fields. Hammie hauled mail with his father, Edward Rupp and eventually he and his father started Rupp's Trash Hauling. Hammie took over the business in the late 70's and continued working until his retirement in the early 1990's. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.Survivors include a son, Kevin and wife Joyce of Hays; two brothers, William "Bill" and Richard Rupp both of Hays; two sisters, Elizabeth (Nutz) of Hays and Patty Rogers of Kansas City.He was preceded in death by his wife Jeannie on February 24, 2008; his parents, three brothers, Thomas Joseph Rupp, Edward Rupp Jr., and Robert Rupp, and one sister, Delores (Rupp) Froehlich-Gross.Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.Visitation will be Wednesday 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. and Thursday 9:00 A.M. - 9:30 A.M. all at Brock's North Hill Chapel 2509 Vine, Hays. A parish vigil service will be Wednesday at 6:30 P.M. at the funeral home.Contributions are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mid-American Capuchin Province or the Hays Good Samaritan Center and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
