Capuchin Fr. Didacus Joseph Dunn, age 81, of Hays, passed away Saturday, September 11th at St. John's Rest Home in Victoria. He was born on January 6, 1929 in Karns City, Pa. to Albert H. and Clare I. (McNamee) Dunn. Father began studies for the priesthood in 1943, and joined the Capuchin Franciscans in 1949. He made first profession in 1950, and studied in Herman, Pa., Cumberland, Md., and Washington, D.C. He was ordained a priest in the National Shrine-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. in 1956.During his nearly 82 years, Fr. Didacus served a wide variety of ministries including Pittsburgh, Pa., St. Louis, Kearney, Neb. and Denver. Father served as pastor of Kansas churches in Atwood, Munjor, Pfeifer, Gorham and Walker. He was chaplain of St. Anthony's Hospital in Hays for one year and also served as the chaplain of St. John's Rest Home in Victoria.He is survived by three brothers Paul Dunn and wife Alberta Mae of Chicora, Pa.; Norval Dunn of Butler, Pa.; and Thomas Dunn and wife Judy of Karns City, Pa. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Clare (McNamee) Dunn, a brother John, and two sisters, Mary Rager and Madeline Geibel. The funeral Mass will be Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hays with the Feast on the Exaltation of the Holy Cross at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be in the friar's plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. with a Vigil service at 7:30 P.M. all at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hays. Arrangements in care of Brock's North Hill Chapel 2509 Vine, Hays.
