Ethan Scott Kortan

Keithley Funeral Homes is not handling the services for Ethan but we are sharing this information on behalf of the Kortan Family .

Ethan celebrated his 23rd birthday at home with family, then two days later fell asleep and woke up in heaven.  While we don't always understand God's timing, we cherish the years God allowed us to be Ethan’s parents, family and friends.

 Ethan was born on January 2, 2001, in Hays, Kansas. He made a grand entrance into this world as the New Year’s baby of 2001.  He was born to Scott and Tania (Funk) Kortan, Silver Lake, KS.  Ethan grew up with sibling twins Mallory and Mariah and twins Ebram and Mabree. The Kortan household was a lively place filled with lots of love and laughter.  There was never a doubt Ethan was deeply loved.  

Ethan graduated from Silver Lake High School in 2019. He went on to complete two certifications at the Washburn Institute of Technology, Diesel Technology and Locomotive Technology, both in 2019. He loved hunting, fishing and enjoying time with family and friends. Ethan loved to use his mechanic skills to fix up cars and atvs. He currently worked as an Auxiliary Equipment Operator at Jeffrey Energy Center, St. Marys, Kansas.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Silver Lake.

He leaves behind, to cherish his memory, his parents, siblings, grandparents Terry and Wanda Kortan (Palco, KS), Wanda Funk (Sharon Springs, KS), and Bryon Funk (Cape Fair, MO), aunts and uncles Michelle Funk-Dowis (Jamie), Tracy Dinkel (Dennis), Camron Funk (Tera), Clayton Funk, Landon Funk and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his uncle Travis Funk.  

His family is having a visitation service at the First Baptist Church in Silver Lake Thursday, January 11th 2024, from 5:00-8:00 pm.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday morning at 10:30 am, January 12, 2024 at the same location.

 In lieu of flowers an Ethan Kortan Memorial Fund has been established at Silver Lake Bank in Silver Lake, KS.
