Ernest E. "Ernie" Meis, age 71, of Catharine, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010 at his home. He was born on December 2, 1938 in Hays to Edmund and Amelia (Miller) Meis. He married Pauline Agnes Rohr on June 27, 1964 in St. Catherine Church. He was a graduate of Victoria High School.Ernie worked at various jobs including R C Williams Oil Co., P & B Packers and Schult Homes. He was a US Army Veteran serving from 1959 - 1962 and a member of St. Catherine Church.He is survived by his wife Pauline of the home; two sons, Paul Meis and wife Theresa and Edmund E. Meis all of Catharine; a daughter, Rose Hammersmith and husband Dean of Conover, N.C.; two brothers, Paul Meis of Salina and Harold Meis of Georgia; a sister, Sr. Ronald Meis of Hays and two grandchildren, Karl and Jacob Meis.His parents, a daughter, Paula Rose Meis and two brothers, Herbert and Robert, preceded him in death.Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Catharine. Cremation will take place after the service with Inurnment to follow in St. Catherine Cemetery. Military Honor Guard after the funeral by the Hays VFW.Visitation will be Tuesday 6:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. and Wednesday 10:00 A.M. - 12:15 P.M. all at Brock's North Hill Chapel 2509 Vine, Hays.Contributions will be used according to the wishes of the family to be determined at a later date.
