Dora Lee (Dorothy Schmidt) Robertson passed away on May 16, 2010, at the Nathan Adelson Hospice, after a courageous eight-year battle with cancer. She was a resident of Las Vegas since 1959. Dora Lee was born on November 23, 1925 in Catharine, Kansas to Jacob and Elizabeth Schmidt. She was the youngest of ten children. A 1943 graduate of Hays High School, Dora Lee was a very artistic person, who loved to paint, draw and design, which was very evident in her floral exhibits for the Las Vegas Carnation Garden Club, of which she was a long-time member, receiving many blue ribbons for her floral presentations. She was also a member of the Retired Officers Wives Club and held several leadership positions. Before moving to Las Vegas, Dora Lee lived for several years in El Paso Texas and three years in Japan on the U.S Air Force Base at Itazuki near the city of Fukuoka, on Kyushu, where her husband Emery, was a commissioned officer in the US Army. Dora Lee was a Cub Scout Den Leader and very active in Las Vegas community organizations, especially the Humane Society. She was a devoted parishioner and volunteer at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Las Vegas since its beginning in early 1960. Dora Lee and her husband, Emery, liked to travel and made trips to Germany, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Bahamas. They enjoyed taking classes in French and classical music, and were members of the Leid Senior Exercise Club. Dora Lee enjoyed theater, especially Shakespeare, traveling to Utah annually with Emery for the Shakespearean Festival in Cedar City. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Emery S. Robertson of Las Vegas, their daughter, Bethany (Jon) Heinlen of Potterville, MI; sons, Frank Robertson of Las Vegas and Mark (Susie) Robertson of Reno; three beloved grandchildren, Bronwyn Knox (David Lawler) of New York City, Ian Knox of Rochester Hills, MI, and Joseph Robertson of Reno; and one great grand-daughter, Regan Lawler of New York City; her brothers James (Lillian) Schmidt of Fountain Hills, AZ and Harold (Mary) Schmidt of Topeka, KS; and sister Anita Stang of Great Bend, KS, and many loving nieces and nephews, and her devoted pet cat, Boots. Dora Lee was a wonderful mother, a devoted sister and aunt, a loving wife, and a true friend. Dora Lee was predeceased by her parents, a brother Alois Schmidt, sisters, Leopoltina Mathes, Helena Brodecker, Frieda Boies, Ernestine Anderson, and Lydia Brull.A memorial service will be held at Palm Summerlin-Funeral Home, Las Vegas, NV, May 25, 2010 at 4 pm, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.: A guest book may be signed at www.palmmoruary.com. A funeral mass will be held at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Catharine, Kansas, Friday May 28, 2010, at 10 am. Inurnment will be in the St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery.
