Dolores Schmeidler

Dolores Marie (Romme) Schmeidler, age 91, of Catharine, Kansas, passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Via Christi Assisted Living Center in Hays, Kansas.

She was born February 12, 1934, at Victoria, Kansas, to Raymond and Magdalena (Kuhn) Romme. She married Lawrence Schmeidler on October 12, 1954, at Victoria, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 4, 2020.

Dolores was a farmer’s wife and a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, reading, word searches, and praying. She was a member of Saint Catherine Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. She grew up on the family farm northwest of Victoria and attended Victoria Grade School and High School. She left her freshman year to take care of her mom and her younger brothers. She worked as a nurse's aide at the old St. Anthony’s Hospital before she got married.

Dolores is survived by her children: Diane Schmeidler, Hays, KS; Joyce Schumacher and husband, Jerry, Salina, KS; Jonathan Schmeidler and wife, Kim, Hays, KS; grandchildren, Maggie Carey (Chris); Sarah Anglemyer (Corey); Jacob Schmeidler and significant other, Tessa Beeman; Grace Schmeidler and Faith Schmeidler; great grandchildren, Natalia Carey; Madeleine Carey; Levi Anglemyer; Noah Anglemyer; her sisters-in-law, Jolene Romme, Lawrence, KS; Lillian Fisher, Hays, KS; Anna Marie Lessor and husband, Laverne, Great Bend, KS; Gloria VonLintel, Vincent, KS; Elsie Schmeidler, Hays, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Magdalena Romme; her husband, Lawrence; her brothers, Robert Romme and wife, Vernetta; Donald Romme; Thomas Romme; Leon Romme; her sister, Vera Schmidtberger and husband, Paul; and her infant brothers, John and Joseph Romme.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Catharine, Kansas, with Celebrants, Father Earl Befort O.F.M. Cap. and Father Harvey Dinkel O.F.M. Cap.. The burial will be in Saint Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.

A vigil service and St. Catherine Christian Mother rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Mondayat Cline's-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd, Hays, Kansas 67601.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, at Cline ’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, at St. Catherine Catholic Church.

The family suggests memorials made payable to: St. John’s Chapel Via Christi; St. Fidelis Cemetery, or T.M.P.-Marian High School-F.F.A. in care of Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.

The family would like to thank the Via Christi Assisted Living staff and Hospice of Hays Medical Center nurses and staff for the wonderful care for their mother.
