Dennis Suelter

Dennis Dee Suelter, age 77, of Brookville, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Salina Regional Health Center. He was born October 22, 1948, in Salina, Kansas, to Lorenz and Edna (Pistora) Suelter. He grew up in central Kansas and graduated from Beverly High School before earning his degree from Fort Hays State University.

On September 25, 1971, he married Therese (Tracy) Schmidtberger, and together they raised four children. Dennis spent 40 years in the advertising industry, working with Dave Cook and Holubar Mountaineering in Colorado before moving back to Kansas to work with Arrow Printing.

Ornery to the last, Dennis was known for his quick wit and dry humor, always having a joke on hand to share. Family and friends will remember fondly his knack for personal pranks and comedic timing. He was an incredible artist, sharing his talent through both his professional work and with family and friends. A lifelong K-State fan, he proudly wore his purple Wildcat hat in constant rotation with camouflage and hunter orange. Dennis spent his youth farming and shared that same value of hard work, done well, with his own family. He held a deep appreciation for the beauty of the outdoors and encouraged a love of nature in his children — summers meant fishing, and fall brought bird hunting. What began as hosting opening weekend grew into a tradition that annually drew in extended family and friends, with the Lodge hosting many a late-night games of poker, good laughs, and great conversation. Dennis lived every day to the fullest: loud, proud, and quick to laugh.

Anyone who ever met him has a story — because Dennis never knew a stranger, and he never missed a chance to share a laugh. Gifted with a natural talent for storytelling, he walked into every room with a broad grin and left every conversation a little better than he found it.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Therese (Tracy); his children, Jason Suelter and wife, Sherri; Emily Lopez and husband, David; Sarah Martinec and husband, Joseph; Jen Kanter and husband, Clint; his nineteen grandchildren; his one great-grandchild; his siblings, Lana Babcock; Curtis Suelter; Judy Base and husband, John; his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorenz and Edna Suelter; his nephew, John Curtis Suelter; and his brother-in-law, Harold Babcock -- may they rest in peace.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 15, 2026, at The Basilica of Saint Fidelis, 900 Cathedral Ave, Victoria, Kansas with Celebrant, Father Fred Gatschet. Burial will be at St. Fidelis Cemetery in Victoria, Kansas.

There will be a visitation from 4:30 to 6:30 P.M., with a rosary at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 13, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina, Kansas.

There will be a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., with a vigil and rosary at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, August 14, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, Victoria, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions to the “Suelter Family Memorial Fund” made payable to: Wilson State Bank, 101 S. Main Street, Beverly, Kansas 67433, to be distributed to the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brookville, Kansas, and the St. Fidelis Cemetery Fund in Victoria, Kansas.
