Obituary



Cleopha K. "Cleo" Klein age 93, of Hays, Kansas died Sunday, January 9, 2022, at Via Christi Village Care Center, Hays, Kansas.

She was born February 25, 1928, at Pfeifer, Kansas to Casper and Anna Margaret (Urban) Degenhardt. She married Victor Klein on August 26, 1947 at Pfeifer, Kansas and they later separated.

She worked in retail sales all of her life, and worked 11 years at Klines Department Store - McDonald Department Store on The Mall at Hays. In her prior years Cleo worked at MoDoDay Clothing Store in downtown Hays, and Tempos Department Store.

Cleo grew up and attended school in Pfeifer, Kansas and she was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays, Kansas.

Survivors include her daughters, Sherry Bieker and husband, Ron, Dallas, TX; Bonnie Trilck and husband, Ron, Hays, KS; Susan Trembley and husband, John, Hays, KS; her brother, Ken Degenhardt and wife, Jill, Wichita, KS; her sister, Sylvia Kruse and husband, Dave, Hoxie, KS; seven grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

Cleo was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Vernon Degenhardt and an infant brother, Larry Degenhardt; her sisters, Viola "Effie" Fiffe, and Ruby Antrim.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Clines-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.

with Father Nick Parker officiation. Inurnment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Saturday, at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Holy Cross Charities, Inc. made payable to the organization in care the mortuary.
