Cleo Elaine Foutz (Cook), 80, of Hays (recently residing in Topeka) passed away Thursday, December 31, 2009. She was born April 12, 1929 in Oakley, KS the daughter of Everett and Hazel (Standley) Cook. She attended Oakley schools and graduated from Winona High School in 1947. She married Cliff Jackson Jr. in 1947. They had three daughters and were later divorced. Cleo married Homer Ezra Foutz in 1969 and they had a son together.Cleo was the Foutz Family matriarch, and she reveled in that roll. She deeply cherished her family as well as the many friendships she shared. She loved cooking and preparing her home for parties, socials and family gatherings. She served others through her philanthropic and volunteer work, which included being a former member of the IH Chapter of PEO and several medical center volunteer groups over her 37 years in Hays. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed many other hobbies including: crochet, cross stitch needlework, gardening, researching family genealogy, and tap dancing. She also enjoyed her membership in the Red Hat Society. Her husband, Homer Foutz, her parents, two brothers, Cleve and Aubrey Cook, and her sister Lorraine Merica preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Tallman and husband Mark of Topeka; Kelly Sigg of WaKeeney; Kris Kipp and husband Bill of Watertown, MA; and her son H. Paul and wife Nicole of Monument, CO. Survivors also include grandchildren: Wendy and Brent Hills, Justin and Jenae Sigg, Andrew and Zachary Jennings, Caroline Kipp, Jack, Connor and Parker Foutz, and 13 great grandchildren: Hannah, Alyssa and Carter Hills, McKynzie and Ezekeil Sigg, Shaylee, Tiana, Jayden, Isiah, Malik and Keenan Sigg, Sam Tindell and Haley Jennings.Funeral services will be Tuesday January 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Hays. Interment will be at the Winona Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Cleo Foutz Memorial at the Alzheimer's Association.
