Carl Alden Moore was born July 5th, 1934 in Goodland, Kansas to parents Martha and Emery L. Moore and passed away August 30th, 2026 at the age of 92. Carl grew up on the original homestead of his grandparents 17 miles southwest of Goodland. Carl was always the cowboy in the family and on several occasions rode his horse to school pulling his little brother and older sister on a sled. He loved to tease both and during these trips he often would find snowbanks or car tracks to intentionally upset the sled.
Carl joined the Air Force at age 17 serving for 11 years with duty in France, Alaska, New Mexico and Illinois. He was an auto mechanic in the Air Force and for a short time after leaving the service. He then became a sheet metal technician. He farmed for a short time, worked in implement repair, and lastly became a Truck driver, at times hauling hazardous material. After retirement he built and flew his own radio controlled airplanes. Carl also had a woodworking hobby called Intarsia. He was quite good at this and loved to give away pieces of his work.
Carl was the fifth child in a family of six. The oldest, Laura, (deceased), Ione (103) of Loveland, Colorado, James L. (deceased), Wilda Jean (deceased) and John (87) and wife Donna, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He is survived by the children from his first marriage to Rosalee Hankins of Goodland, Patricia Mumford (Rick), Sterling, CO, Carlene Stinnette (Bing), Colby, KS., Alisa Plenty-Wolf, Goodland, KS., and Robert H. Moore, Denver, CO., and by the children from his second marriage to Marcella Zerr of Grainfield, Kansas, step daughters Janice Braun (Rick) Victoria, KS., and Pam Morel (Larry), Oakley, KS. Also many grandkids and great-grandkids, all of whom he loved dearly.
Carl will be missed by all.
Services will be at the Kansas State Veterans' Cemetery in WaKeeney, Friday, September 18, 2026, at 1:00 PM.
