Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Smith, age 63, of Hays, died Monday, June 8, 2009 at her home. She was born September 22, 1945 in Hays, Kansas to A.P. and Catherine (Kuhn) Leiker. She married Les Smith on August 17, 1963 in Munjor, Kansas.

Betty was a homemaker and had worked as a Wal-Mart Associate. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, The American Legion Riders, Kansas Patriot Guard, and the Coffee Break Bowling League all of Hays. She was also an avid quilter and devoted grandmother.

She is survived by her husband Les Smith of Hays, two daughters, Treasa Wing and husband Les of Kingman and Sarah Zerr and husband Jason of Hays, two sons, Tony Smith and wife Kelly of Hays and Bryan Smith of Kingman, her mother, Catherine Leiker of Hays and ten grandchildren, Tyler, Sean, Cassie, Alex, Ryan, Chris, Cecil, Jace, Anna and Ben.

She was preceded in death by her father, A. P. Leiker, seven grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 15th at Immaculate Heart of Mary church in Hays. Burial will be in Mt. Allen Cemetery in Hays. Visitation will be on Sunday 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. and on Monday 9:00 A.M. - 10:30 A.M. at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays.

A combined American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary prayer service will be at 6:00 P.M. Sunday followed by a parish vigil service at 6:30 P.M. all at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Hays Medical Center or to the Betty Smith Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
