Audi Rae Hill

AUDI RAE (HEMPHILL) HILLFriday, February 05, 2010, marked this chapter's end for the book of Audi.Audi Rae (Hemphill) Hill was born at the Kit Carson County Hospital on August 24, 1983, in Burlington, Colorado. Little did her family know at the time the impact she would have on their lives and others' lives as well. She was raised in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, attending classes at the Cheyenne County Schools. Audi's classmates in preschool were no strangers; the majority of them had already bonded as friends at Reatha Mendenhall's daycare. The school years to follow allowed Audi to cement these childhood relationships. She stayed busy, gathering even more friendships as well as knowledge. Her classmates at Cheyenne Wells Schools became part of her extended family. She was always there for them, often to coach them into an outrageous prank and later years, talk them out of acts that could bring bodily harm! There were very few people that could resist those eyes of mischief and warm smile. Following Senior graduation from CWHS in May of 2001 new paths scattered these established friendships from Audi's world. This didn't stop her adventures for long. She decided to move to Hutchinson, Kansas to continue her education at Hutchinson Community College. In no time Audi attracted a new group of fans and of course mischief. She achieved her Associates degree from HCC, finishing at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas. Audi's move from Hutchinson to Lawrence, Kansas lighted a fire that no sportsfan could resist, Jayhawk Fever!! Audi soon realized that Kansas University was a financial goal that she could not reach, so she loaded her belongings and moved to Hays, Kansas to continue her college career. She achieved her Bachelor's degree in business in the spring of 2009, but not before she added more friends to her ever- growing list.Hays, Kansas was to deliver her to the arms of Matthew Hill, first as a friend and then as a wife. August 11, 2007, on a very warm day in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, Audi became Mrs. Matthew Hill. What a beautiful bride! Melanoma cancer rocked Audi's happy world in May 2007, when a mole on her neck was removed and diagnosed at stage IV status. Surgery at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas was followed by chemo treatments for a year in Hays. This lead to another surgery at Hays Medical Center on a cancer mass that decided to grow in her abdomen. It was time for an aggressive change. July 29, 2008, Audi and Matt, along with her dad Ted and step mom, Trina headed to M. D. Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston, Texas. There she became a patient and quickly a friend of oncologist, Dr. Nicholas Papadopoulos, M.D., professor in the Department of Melanoma Medical Oncology. Several treatments were tried, and in true Audi style she set world's record for T cells growth. This therapy gave her months of "normalcy". Audi gained mauy good patient friends in Houston and was a great cheerleader and source of encouragment for everyone she met. In June 2009 tumors began appearing once again. Two more trial treatments were attempted but with little results for cure. Audi lost her valiant fight on Friday, February 05, 2010 at South Winds Hospice, Pratt, Kansas.
