Alvin A. Dinges, age 85 of Hays, died Tuesday, February 17th at the Hays Medical Center. He was born March 15, 1923 in Hays to Peter and Katherine (Engel) Dinges. He graduated from Schoenchen High School. He married Edna Marie Werth on September 15, 1944 in Norman, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on May 4, 1989. He married LaVaughn (Hodgson) Hull on March 15, 1991 in Hays, Kansas.He was a distributor of confections and founded "Al's Sunflower Seeds." His memberships included the Hays American Legion Honor Guard, 3rd Degree St. Joseph Council #1325 and 4th Degree Bishop Cunningham Assembly Knights of Columbus, Hays Medical Center Volunteers, Lions Club International, Smoky Hill Country Club, Ft. Hays Municipal Golf Course, St. Joseph's Catholic Church and he served in the United States Navy during WW II. Alvin is survived by his wife, LaVaughn Hull Dinges of Hays, KS; three sons, Robert E. Dinges and wife Karla of Las Vegas, NV., Larry Dinges and wife Kathy of Springfield, MO. and Jeffery Dinges of Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Shelby Warnell and husband Les of Warrenton, VA. and Kimberly Ruder and husband Mark of Austin, TX; two stepsons, Douglas Hull and wife Lisa of Winona, MN. and Troy Hull of Arvada, CO; four step daughters, Shiela Brening, Michelle Knowles and husband Larry, Denise Ring and husband Bill all of Hays and Tamra Scheuerman of Wichita; three brothers, Gilbert, and James of Schoenchen and Julius of Hays; a sister, Mary Diane Binder of Hays; eight grandchildren, Robbie and Dustin Dinges, Christopher and Kimberly Warnell, Alex and Merideth Dinges, Tanya McReynolds and Rachel Ruder; eight step grandchildren, Garrett Brening and wife Lisa, Adam Brening and wife D'Layna, Megan Brening, Emmett and Nell Hull, Luke and Emily Knowles and Scott Ring; twelve great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda Staab and three brothers, Victor, Henry and Melvin who died at seven years of age.Funeral services will be at 10:00 Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Schoenchen. Military graveside services by the Hays VFW and American Legion.Visitation will be on Friday 5:00 - 8:00 with a parish vigil service at 7:00. A combined 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus Rosary service will be at 7:30 all at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays.Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Anthony Cemetery fund in Schoenchen or TMP-Marian and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
