Albert Adam Hilgenberg, age 86, of Ellis, passed away Tuesday, January 26th at the Ellis Good Samaritan Center. He was born on December 19, 1923 to Adam and Laura (Stoppel) Hilgenberg on the family farm in Russell County, Kansas. He married Blanche Luerman on July 16, 1944 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dubuque, Kansas.Albert was a US Navy veteran attaining the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He served in Japan, Saipan and Taipan from 1944 - 1946. He worked in the oil industry with ACK Tank service in Russell for 17 years and then with Gore Oil Company in Ellis for 19 years. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Ellis, Hays American Legion and a lifetime member of the Russell VFW Post 6240. He is survived by his wife, Blanche of Ellis, four daughters, Sue Staab and husband Tom of Hays, Sheila Rae Betts and husband Roger of Shattuck, OK., Renee Wiesner and Ron Williford of Lawrence and Trena Lang and husband Rodger of Springfield, MO., a sister, Irene Hrabik of Hays, ten grandchildren, Keith Staab and wife Diane, Kirk Staab and wife Jan, Craig Staab, Charla Heaton and husband Ashley, Shawn Betts and wife Lovey, Frank Wiesner, Stephanie Wiesner, Brandi Lang, Dylan Lang and Whitney Lang. And six great grandchildren, Cody and Aaron Staab, Kaden and Kyler Staab, Kiersten and Allison Heaton. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Leroy Hilgenberg and a grandson, Fredrick Wiesner. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors by the Russell VFW Post 6240. Visitation will be Thursday 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. and Friday 9:30 A.M. until service time all at Christ Lutheran Church. A prayer service will be at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the church. Arrangements in care of Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis.Contributions are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church or to the Kansas Crippled Children's Fund.
