A.J. Bieker

A.J. "Red" Bieker, age 82, of Chanute formerly of Hays, died Saturday, April 18 at the Harry Hynes Hospice Center in Wichita. He was born on November 6, 1926 in Hays, Kansas to Nick and Pauline (Boos) Bieker. He was a fire fighter & Fire Chief in Hays, Ks. back in the 1950's and 60's and moved on to become the Fire Chief at the Osawatomie State Hospital in Osawatomie, Ks. in the late 60's and early 70's before becoming a State Fire Marshal. After his retirement as a State Fire Marshal he resided in Chanute, Ks. with his companion. Mr. Bieker was preceded in death by his parents, a son, William Bieker, a daughter, Mary Bieker, a brother Paul A. Bieker, a sister, Martina Klaus and a step-son, Robert Dobkins. Survivors are his ex-wife Norma Bieker of Auburn, KS., three sons, Norman of Gardner, KS., Bob of Olathe, KS. & Jim of Topeka, KS., two daughters, Alice Berens of Wamego, KS. and Wilma Craft of Atlanta, GA. , 10 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren, 4 Step Grandchildren & 4 Step Great Grandchildren. He is also by his long time companion and her family, Jewell I. Dobkins of Chanute, a son, Marvin Dobkins, a daughter, Wilma Holsinger, 5 Grandchildren & 8 Great Grandchildren.
