Thecla Haas

Thecla Clara Haas, age 96, of Hays, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Hays Medical Center. She was born August 12, 1915 in Vincent, KS. to Ulrich and Elizabeth (Von Lintel) Berens. She graduated from Victoria High School in 1933. She married Alfred A. Haas on Nov. 23, 1936 at Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Antonino. He preceded her in death on August 15, 1978.



She was a devoted mother and homemaker. Her memberships included St. Joseph Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, and Christian Mothers of Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Antonino.



She is survived by seven sons, Nathan (Barbara) Haas of Columbia, IL, Fr. Julian Haas O.F.M. Cap. Of Denver, Thomas (Therese) Haas of Hays, Rich (Leona) Haas of Millersville, MD, Maurice (Debbie) Haas of LaCrosse, John (Sharon) Haas of Hays and Fredd (Linda) Haas of Des Moines, IA; five daughters, Alfreda Schmidt of Hays, Lorraine (Doug) Berland of Damar, Judy (Joseph) Matranga of San Francisco, Joyce (Tom) Lang of Hays and Donna (Lonny) Nathanson of San Francisco; a sister, Irene Dinkel of Victoria; a daughter-in-law, Geraldine "Jean" Haas of Olathe; 59 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Norbert "Chuck" Haas, a daughter, Mary Haas, six brothers, Louis, Fidelis, Otto, Ben, Elmer and Victor Berens and a son-in-law, Milton Schmidt.



Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Hays. Burial will follow in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery in Antonino.



Visitation will be Tuesday 6:15 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. and Wednesday 8:30 A.M. - 9:30 A.M. all at St. Joseph Catholic Church.



There will be a combined Daughters of Isabella and Christian Mothers of Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Antonino rosary service at 6:30 P.M. followed by a parish vigil service at 7:00 P.M. all at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
