Robert Lee "Bob" Befort, 79, of Ellis, Kansas, went to his heavenly home on Friday, May 27, 2011. He was born January 18, 1932, in Munjor to Isadore and Rose (Urban) Befort. He attended Catholic school in Hays and was a 1950 graduate of St. Joseph's Military Academy. He received an honorable discharge from the National Guard.He married Ernestine J Schoenthaler on October 14, 1953, in Hays. They started their married lives together in Hays, where he was a self-employed plumber for several years. They later moved to Ellis where they raised their family. He enjoyed his retirement years playing Texas Hold'em, Bingo and watching Wheel of Fortune at Ellis Country Club. He was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church, Ellis, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus of Ellis, and Eagles Lodge #3774 of WaKeeney.Survivors include his wife of 57 years; two sons, Dale (Mary) Befort of Victoria, and Dean (Tammy) Befort of Wichita; four daughters, Patricia (Randy) Bertrand of Minneapolis, Joyce (David) Brungardt of Glen Carbon, IL, Rose Tway and Crystal (Mark) Armbrister, both of Ellis; 11 grandchildren, Amadee (Jayme) Staab, Brandon Befort, Brandy Bertrand, Andrea (Nick) Hernandez, Amanda (Ramon) Lopez, Cheryl (Jason) Jabara, Dustin Befort, Jennifer (Brad) Harms, Joshua Tway, Logan Armbrister and Morgan Armbrister; 6 great-grandchildren, Brantlee and Kaymbree Staab, Annicka and Alexander Hernandez, Madelyn and Allison Jabara. He is also survived by brother Ronald (Pam) Walters of Albuquerque, NM; and sisters, Leona Fross of Hays, Marcella Dreiling of Chapman, Rosemary Gerstner of Conyers, GA, Sr. Mary Alice Walters, of Cudahy, WI, and Janet (Jude) Gerstner of Overland Park. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Frank Walters; brother, Ralph Walters; sisters, Rita Walters, Merriam Walters, Cecelia Wolf, Mary Pfeifer, Wilma Isengard, Frances Schmidt, Katherine Schmidt, and Alice Windholz.Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, at St Mary's Catholic Church, Ellis, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis. Visitation will be Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church 6:30 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. A Knights of Columbus rosary and parish vigil will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday visitation will be at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E. 17th Ellis, KS. 67637 from 9:00 A.M. - 9:30 A.M.Memorials are suggested to the Cancer Council of Ellis County or Good Samaritan Society-Ellis, in care of the funeral home.
