Marcel Joseph Pfeifer, age 89, of Hays, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2010 at the Trego Manor in WaKeeney. He was born on June 16, 1920 in Ellis County, Kansas to Alexander and Theresa (Sack) Pfeifer on the family farm. He married Erma Mae Mills in December of 1946 in Seguin, Kansas.He was a farmer-stockman in Sheridan County. He was a US Army veteran during WWII. Marcel received a Bronze Star during his service in the Aleutian Islands. Prior to his military service he was a cook at the Lamar Hotel in Hays where he served Shirley Temple breakfast. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays and served as a church deacon.Marcel is survived by his wife, Erma of Victoria; a son, Brent Pfeifer of Dallas, TX; six daughters, Linda Deines and husband Dan, Brenda Bell and husband Ron all of Manhattan, Marcella Bailey and husband Glen of Dodge City, Theresea Reeves and husband Jim of Oberlin, Roberta Eberle and husband Ted of Glen Elder and Shirley Logsdon and husband Max of Emporia; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by a son, Brian Pfeifer; three brothers, Louis, Fred and Gene Pfeifer and two sisters, Geraldine Needham and Martina Pfeifer "Sister Vita".Memorial services will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 11th. Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.The family will be present at the church to greet friends on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. until service time. Arrangements in care of Brock's North Hill Chapel Funeral Home 2509 Vine, HaysMemorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
