Julius F. Dinges, age 87 of Hays passed away on Tuesday, September 15th at St. John's Health Care Center in Hays. He was born on December 7, 1921 in Schoenchen to Peter and Catherine (Engel) Dinges. Julius was a longtime Hays businessman. He worked for Sinclair Oil and Gas as a Distributor before purchasing the business. He then operated the business as Dinges Oil for over forty years. He was a US Navy Veteran serving during WWII on the USS Wake Island. As part of the crew on this ship Julius received the Navy Unit Commendation for outstanding heroism in action against enemy forces in the air, ashore and afloat.He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Ross of Wichita; six children; two brothers, Gilbert "Bux" and Peter James "Jim" Dinges both of Schoenchen and a sister, Mary Diann Binder of Hays.Julius was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Hilda Staab and five brothers, Victor, Infant Peter James, Alvin, Henry and Melvin.Funeral services were held today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial is in the Kansas Veteran's Cemetery in WaKeeney with Military honors by the US Navy and the Hays VFW. Memorial contributions are suggested to TMP-Marian High School.
